Reflexology works on the principle that our body is holographic. This means that the whole body is represented in each of its parts. Or to put it another way, when we work on specific areas of the feet, the corresponding areas in your body release any tension or dis-ease (lack of ease).
For example, the toes represent the head, the spine is represented by the inside foot and so on. Reflexology can be done on the hands, feet and ears. Therese centers her practice on the feet.
The method that Therese uses, treats both feet at the same time. A great deal of emphasis is placed on the toes which contain within them the corresponding cranial sutures and the twelve cranial nerves. This calms the body down and balances the nervous and electrical system.
Similarly, stimulating specific points on the feet will tonify or sedate the corresponding organs and body parts depending on the body’s needs. The body has within it an innate wisdom. We tap into that during each session so that you receive what it is that you require.

Frequently-Asked-Questions:
“What is involved in a reflexology session?”
You have a very important job to do during the session – relax! Most people find reflexology very soothing and relaxing. You remain fully clothed except for your socks. Sessions can be performed sitting up or lying down on a massage table. During a typical reflexology session, Therese will discuss your intention or area of focus for the session followed by:
- a foot soak to relax the feet and to soften the tissues
- approximately 45 minutes of reflexology and systematic massage – both feet are worked with at the same time
- a period of quiet introspection and integration to allow your nervous system to integrate the experience
“What will I feel?”
Everyone’s experience will be different and you will notice something different with each experience. Responses can range from physical to emotional and may include:
- Deep relaxation
- Relief from tension
- Improvement of circulation particularly in the feet and hands
- Sense of appreciation for the body as you might have after a good massage
- More awareness of what is going on in your body
- Sense of harmony
- Perspiration of hands or feet
- Sensation of being cold or chilled
- Feeling light-headed
- Desire to sleep
- Coughing
- Laughing
- Crying
- Sighing deeply
- Disappearance of pain and discomfort
“Do you make house calls?”
Yes! Therese often does in-home appointments for those unable to come to her or who would prefer the session in their own home. Please contact Therese for more information or pricing.
“Can anyone have reflexology?”
While reflexology is an extremely safe healing practice and most people benefit greatly from reflexology, there are some times where reflexology is not recommended:
- clients with foot fractures, unhealed wounds or active gout
- if you have osteoarthritis that impacts the foot or ankle or vascular disease of the legs or feet, you should consult with your primary care provider prior to beginning reflexology on the feet
- clients with current thrombosis or embolism. Since reflexology improves circulation, it could potentially cause a clot to move towards the heart or brain
- if you are in the first 6 weeks of pregnancy, you should exercise caution. Ensure that your reflexology practitioner is aware so that they can alter the session by treating more gently or avoiding the uterine and ovarian reflex points. Stimulation of these areas may cause contractions
- babies and young children will receive benefit but will rarely have the patience for a whole session. Abbreviated sessions can be done
- if you are using other touch therapies such as massage, allow 48 hours between touch therapy sessions to avoid an overload on your system
“How can reflexology help me?”
According to the University of Minnesota,
“Reflexology is beneficial for restoring balance and harmony in the body and releasing tension. It can help facilitate a deep state of relation, calm the emotions, and produce a serene mind.
Many people describe a profound sense of relaxation and increased energy following their session. In addition specific studies have shown that reflexology can reduce pain and anxiety, decrease premenstrual symptoms, and reduce fatigue and insomnia.”
Several studies have been conducted about the efficacy of reflexology. Some of the results of those studies are listed here for information only. As always use your own awareness to determine if reflexology is right for you and always consult with your primary care physician before making and significant changes if you have any health considerations.
- Anxiety and depression – a reduction of symptoms in postmenopausal women
- Cancer – reduction of pain, nausea, diarrhea or constipation and improved quality of life with reflexology
- Cardiovascular System – there is a link between pressure to the feet as well as the baroreceptors of the heart
- Diabetes Type II – blood flow rate improvement
- Migraine/Tension Headaches – reflexology was shown to be at least as effective as drug therapy
- Kidney Function – increased renal blood flow
- Pediatric Research – found an increase in bowel movements for children with chronic idiopathic constipation
- Premenstrual Syndrome (PMS) – 46% of women studied had improved symptoms (less anxiety, depression, fatigue, or difficulty sleeping) with reflexology alone
- Sinusitis – improvement of symptoms comparable to nasal douching
“How much does it cost?”
Sessions are $60 each
You can choose a reflexology session or a ‘combo’ session. Therese is trained in many other modalities and she is able to combine other energetic systems and techniques with your reflexology session.
